Communicating a complex safety message is difficult. Communicating a complex
safety message to someone who has poor reading skills is especially difficult.
However, we still need to communicate safety messages to everyone. The
NZ Building Code (Signs F8.3.1) states, signs shall be clearly visible
and readily understandable under all foreseeable use. According to Statistics
New Zealand, one in 50 people do not speak English (excluding children
under five years of age).*
Action Direction creates safety signs that everyone can understand. Our
signs use a combination of images and simple English that enable everyone
to understand the message. Our signs are quirky and colourful, and they
attract peoples’ attention. Before they realise it, they have understood
the safety message.
